MANAGEMENT OF HYPERGLYCEMIA IN CRITICAL PATIENTS: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Abstract


Diabetes mellitus is a major public health problems due to several factors: the number of people suffering, disability, cost of treatment, complications and mortality. For the diabetic patient, the intensive care unit is full of stimuli that cause anxiety, fear, tension, insecurity and stress. These factors, which are able to lead to hyperglycemia, which perhaps raises mortality rates. It is this situation that the intensive care nurse becomes the patient's advocate in order to promote their adaptation, and uses his technical skills in order to maintain normal glycemic parameters of the patient, even with so many adverse factors.
