Risk in Tracheal Aspiration and Nursing Practice - Systematized Literature Review

REGINALDO COSTA OLIVEIRA, Isabel Cruz

Abstract

Objective: To identify what is already found in the specialized literature about the highly complex patient at risk of aspiration and the interaction of Nursing with him. Methods: This is an integrative review, which is a research method that allows the synthesis of published studies and generates general conclusions. For this study, the steps were followed: construction of the guiding question through the selection of the theme; the search for descriptors through the controlled vocabulary Descriptors in Health Sciences (DECS) and Medical Subject Headings Section (MESH), using the PICOT strategy and the establishment of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: In order to avoid complications, it is up to the nursing professional to perform this procedure properly and with a technical basis. The lack of knowledge of the nursing professional about pulmonary physiology and the management of mechanical ventilation generates a departure from the ventilator itself, leading the professional to act beyond what is required of his care production in certain situations of artificial respiration in that quick decision and immediate decision making can be crucial in therapy. Conclusion: It is recommended, intensify research on the subject so that it can better evidence the failures and possibilities for improvement, in order to assist the practice in Nursing so that one can find the most scientifically proven way of acting
