Nursing evidence-based practice guidelines for Urinary Tract Infection/Urinary Tract Infectious Desease in ICU - Systematic Literature Review

Juliana Batoca Pinto, Isabel Cruz

Abstract

Introduction: The highly complex patient is exposed to several invasions, because of this he has a high risk of developing a HAI, the most common and with the greatest preventive potential for UTI, as most of them are related to urinary catheterization. Considering the great economic and assistance impact of this infection, it is of great relevance that effective preventive measures are adopted for this by health professionals who deal directly with the urinary catheter, standing out among them the nurse for handling the circuit daily and for installing the urinary catheter. Objective: to review nursing care in the scientific literature that will assist the intensivist nurse in preventing the nursing diagnosis NANDA and SNOMED CT Urinary Tract Infection / Infectious Urinary Tract Disease in overly complex adult/elderly patient in ICU. Method: Integrative literature review carried out in 3 databases (MEDLINE, PUBMED AND CINAHL) analyzing 14 articles at the end, of which only 1 was Brazilian. Results: After analyzing the 14 articles, recommendations for prevention of ITU-AC were extracted based on permanent education, multidisciplinary team work, welcoming coordination / leadership approach towards nurses and measures directly related to urinary catheterization and / or urinary catheter how to reduce the number of catheters and the number of days with a catheter; and, use a sterile closed circuit silicone catheter. Conclusion: It concludes the great relevance of the nurse for the prevention of such condition and the importance of the theme for the care practice, reiterating the need for Brazilian studies on the theme, considering that only 1 of the 14 articles was from Brazil.
