Vascular complication post percutaneous coronary intervention - Sistematic Literature Review

Abstract

Objective: review the scientific production from the vascular complications post percutaneous coronary intervention procedures in order to update technical scientific information that direct an evidence-based practice by professional nursing. Methodology: exploratory descriptive study based on librarian survey from national and international journals of nursing published in the period of 2003 to 2008. Results: There have been four national articles selected and six international ones. After the evaluation of studies, the information was organized into themes according to the following considerations identified: vascular complications rate and severity, ratio of means of access and arterial complications, predictors factors, degree of dependency of patients undergone percutaneous coronary procedures and time to rest, form of hemostasis after removal of the arterial introducer and the complication rate of its removal by nurses. Conclusion: The study of the vascular complications post percutaneous coronary procedures emphasizes the presence and role of nurses in patient care to minimize complications. This requires further research on the technical-scientific knowledge to ensure quality of patient care and safety to the professionals.
