Nursing evidence-based interprofissional guidelines for Impaired Deglutition in ICU - Systematized Literature Review

Abstract

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is identified as an indicated unit for patients requiring specialized care and continuous monitoring. Nursing care at an ICU requires the clinician to take a clinical approach to quickly identify the health conditions of each admitted patient, due to the severity and complexity of each patient. It is known that food is an important factor for the maintenance of life, source of pleasure and important for the development of human beings. Diffusion is defined as impaired difficulty or swallowing, may be present in varying degrees and may range from difficulty in chewing to complete inability to swallow. The purpose and to highlight the importance of the integrated care of nursing and interprofessional team to the client with diagnosis of nursing of deglutition impaired. Systematic review of the literature of 10 scientific articles published between the years 2011 to 2017 in the LILACS, MEDLINE and SCIELO databases, which met the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study. It is concluded that because the nurse is the closest professional that is of the patient during his / her hospitalization in the ICU, he / she may be the first professional to detect the existence of an alteration and they are the ones that have to involve other professionals of the interprofessional team without forgetting to involve the patient and his family in this team. Thus, a good nursing assessment is necessary, it will be important to understand each patient's intake pattern and changes.
