PRACTICE OF NURSING BASED ON EVIDENCE ABOUT NURSES 'PERFORMANCE IN AIRWAY MANAGEMENT DURING CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION IN AN ADULT PATIENT

Abstract


The airways have the main function of conducting air between the environment and the lungs (pulmonary alveoli), providing filtered, heated and oxygen-rich air inlet and the outlet of carbon dioxide-rich air from the respiratory system, thus participating of the breathing process. Ensuring that they are unobstructed and clear is the main condition for the success of a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Thus, this article aims to analyze the studies in the literature that discuss nursing interventions and activities proposed for handling airways during CPA, seeking as a result the effective gas exchange. It is an integrative literature review with the purpose of gathering and synthesizing the existing knowledge on the proposed theme, which used the LILACS, SciELO and MEDLINE databases and as inclusion criteria Brazilian articles with full texts and online in the periods from 2004 to 2019. After reading and evaluating, 5 papers were listed that referred to the theme presented, demonstrating priority actions by nurses to ensure patent airways in front of the patient with CPR.
