What is the best digital technology for nursing intervention in patient-controlled analgesia in the ICU - Systematized Literature Review

Carlos E Queiroz Marins, Isabel F Cruz

Abstract

Objective: Review the practice in evidence, using the PICO strategy, which will help the intensive care nurse in the identification and treatment of nursing conduct on patient-controlled analgesia. Methods: This is an integrative review of scientific literature by searching an online, computerized and/or manual database, in the Virtual Health Library (VHL), in the following databases: Lilacs, SciELO, Bdenf and Academic Google, in the period of 2013 to 2021, using descriptors: Patient-controlled analgesia; Nursing diagnosis; Critical care; Technology. Results: In this study, 10 articles were chosen for analysis, the criteria for choice were the relevance to the topic and the year of publication. Conclusion: Based on the reviewed articles, we verified the importance of the nursing team being informed and updated in technological advances, adapting their care to the individual in a unique way, for a nursing diagnosis centered on the effective resolution of pain. Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) has been a great advance with technology and provides an effective and safe analgesia modality, becoming the most common standard method for postoperative pain control in the world and is associated with high satisfaction.
